Failed Attempt to Pass Causes Fiery Chicago Car Crash

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 32,719 people were killed in traffic accidents in the United States in 2013 alone. By far, the greatest toll we pay as a society in car crashes is the loss of life and the injuries sustained to the victims involved but many people fail to realize that, though these are the greatest costs, they are not the only harm done.

Additionally, car accidents were estimated to cost this nation almost $1 trillion in lost productivity in the workforce and at home combined with the loss of life experienced due to collisions. Additional damages can be experienced in the form of damage done to vehicles and other inanimate objects, scarring and permanency of injuries, and loss of a normal life or the ability to engage in activities to the same extent as a victim did before an accident. Some damages are easy to quantify but others are difficult or impossible; for these reasons, it may be wise to consult with a personal injury attorney if you have been hurt in Chicago and you have questions about your rights to relief or the value of your case.

Shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, a serious car accident occurred in downtown Chicago sending four people to hospitals. Police that responded have reported that a sedan traveling behind a Jeep near the 200 block of East Roosevelt Road attempted to pass the Jeep on the right but did not do so cleanly, instead colliding with a curb and causing the driver of the sedan to lose control. The sedan struck the Jeep and also struck a concrete planter that was near the road which caused the sedan to roll over before it came to a rest. The impact of the crash caused the sedan to catch fire and caused significant damage to the vehicle, preventing the driver from escaping under his own power. He was helped to safety by passersby and a male passenger in the sedan was able to remove himself from the vehicle without assistance. The driver of the Jeep and a female passenger were also injured in this incident and all four victims were taken to hospitals in Chicago for treatment.

At this time, the driver of the sedan has been issued multiple citations for his role in the crash but additional charges may result pending the outcome of a police investigation into the incident.
